Mechanical Kit Assembly

Part 5 of the build documentation. You may want to check out the intro first.

The mechanical assembly was a breeze as far as the Liteplacer kit went. Very nice assembly instructions, no parts missing, everything worked as advertised. A nice experience.

I also had two friends helping – many thanks to them!

What would I do differently?

  • Buy good quality Allen keys (with ball points). The small set screws in pulleys etc. are a challenge to get tight but not damaged. Cheap keys will wear out quickly and then damage the set screws. I only got the good ones later:
  • Paint the plate edges (I tried afterwards…)
  • Get and use a thread-locking fluid (“loctite”) from the beginning.
